German Technology of Excellent Quality! June 3, 2009 Menace915 (El Paso) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
This T7 light is a wonderful piece of equipment for anyone looking for a great light to hunt, go camping, hiking, for law enforcement, tactical/military teams, and any outdoor enthusiast! I too had never heard of Led Lenser/Coast, but if all you want is widely-known brand names (Mag-Lite, Streamlight, Surefire, Pelican, etc), I think you should give this brand a chance.
PROs:
-At 167 lumens, this light is extremely bright, and thanks to the unique reflector technology, it seems even brighter.
- The head has "Speed Focus," which means that you can slide the head forward or backward. This changes the light from spotlight (narrow, extremely bright beam with little peripheral light) to Floodlight (large lightspill, but beam does not travel far). This allows you to use this light in any situation.
-When in spotlight mode, it has a very far "throw."
- It can operate at both low and high mode, allowing you to preserve battery life when not much illumination is needed.
-Runs on inexpensive AAA batteries (3 batteries). The cartridge into which you insert the batteries is connected to the tailcap, thus you will never lose it.
-Offers tactical level light on AAA batteries, so you save a lot of money rather than buying expensive CR123A's. Not to mention AAA batteries are more widely available.
-Visible up 100 km
-Batteries last up to 50 hours
-Includes nylon belt holster with quick release velcro belt loop, lanyard, carabiner clip, and a very nice presentation box that looks ready to be handed out as a gift.
CONs:
- The switch could be better, it is a bit small and slippery. A rubber switch would have been easier to use.
-Overall the whole body is a bit slippery despite the fact that it has an aluminum knurled grip.
-When in spotlight mode, the light has ugly rings around it, but its not such a big deal since the floodlight mode is flawless.
Overall a great tactical-level light. The price is a bit high, but the technology it uses is worth it, and the fact that you don't have to use CR123A batteries saves you a lot of money. Excellent throw, outperforms a 1 million candlepower spotlight, is compact, and less expensive that Surefires and other name brands.
Unlike any other. May 26, 2009 J. Geller (Arizona) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have used many different lights. Among the best were the Stinger DS, surefire 9p, and Blackhawk gladius. The best is, hands down, this light (T7 md) at a cheaper price. The reasons this light is superior; It has a longer run time than the best lights out there, does not need to be recharged or take expensive lithium batteries; the light is the perfect size, it can be used as a tactical shooting light, a tracking light and a spot light, and my favorite part is how quick the light beam can be adjusted, which may seem like not a big deal but once you have a light that is able to shed the perfect beam instantly for any situation you can never go back. The aluminum body is durable and the lens has yet to show a scratch. Don't buy this light because it's cheaper than the other tac lights, buy it because it's better. I've always been hung up on brand names and I was a little nervous when ordering this light because I haven't heard of the company. But if this light is any indication of what's to come from this manufacturer, the tactical flashlight industry is in for a wake up call. However it is not necessary for the average homeowner/weekender to spend this much on a light, I would recommend to go spend 30 bucks on a 2 cell maglite LED, but if law enforcement, everyday use, or extreme tacticality is necessary this one's for you.
Truly Superb Versatile Flashlight... February 22, 2010 Ambergris (New England.....USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I'll be the first one to admit that spending around $75 for a flashlight is a little much for just about anyone. And I am no exception. Before springing the serious dough I did on this Coast light, the most I ever spent for a light was less than half the price of this one. Though it is one serious amount of money to be sure, in my opinion it has not disappointed me in the least, and, I have quickly come to feel it is well worth every penny.
The Coast Lenser is simply put the best overall quality flashlight I have ever held. At just over 5 inches, it is compact enough to fit in a pocket or backpack, and yet the body of it feels as solid as they come. There are three levels of light output on this unit. Depress the rear button lightly and the Coast comes on instantly to full power. And let me tell you, at full power this baby is open for business. The Coast employs some form of technology that makes its LED output perform far more efficiently to achieve a eye blinding 192 lumen output. People are constantly amazed when I take it out at night and demonstrate it for them. In fact they all want one for themselves. (Until I tell them the price..:D). To maintain full 100% power you have to keep your finger depressed constantly without clicking it. Something at first that I was a little put off by, but have quickly come to feel is the perfect system. I do a lot of walking at night in some pretty dark places. The Coast is so light and compact I carry it right in my hand and whip it up instantly when encountering a dark area or hear a noise somewhere. The full power brightness instantly is perfect in my opinion. Very often I just hold it down for 10 or 15 seconds when I check out a dark area and then release it. Clicking the button once sets the light to low, (approximately 40% power). Clicking it twice sets it to high, (75% of full power). In most cases the low power setting is all you should ever need. And the high power will give you sufficient light for just about any darkness or distance. And of course the full power setting with constant pressure is always there if you need it. Believe me when I tell you that one gets used to this system very quickly and finds it very convenient. And despite some other reviewers here that have spoken a little negatively on the rear button location, I happen to prefer it. I have never ran into a button or switch on the body of a flashlight that I found perfectly suitable and convenient. The rear location is perfect in my opinion.
The Coast also sports and excellent focus system similar to a camera zoom lens. You simply slide the crown back or forth to achieve either a direct beam or a flood. The zoom is very solid and can't be moved accidentally by just touching or holding it lightly. The three power setting system, together with the finely damped zoom makes the Coast Lenser the very best and most versatile light I have ever owned, or used. Its solid enough to last a lifetime, and carries a 78 hour working battery life on low power. And that is on easy to find anywhere AA batteries, a real plus.
Make no mistake about it, the price they ask for this light is high, but in my opinion much worth it. I paid the same price as what they are asking here on Amazon at a sporting goods store, plus sales tax. It comes with free shipping on Amazon at the time of this writing. Once you get past the price, if you are someone that has a job or pastime that can be made much better by using a very solid, versatile portable light, or, if you are just a self confessed flashlight nut, believe me when I tell you that you just gotta get one of these babies. Its the last flashlight you will probably ever need or buy. Truly one of a kind and highly recommended.
Hand held spotlight. March 30, 2009 William Reese (Simi Ca.) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
You know, this is not a cheep light, but it's worth the price. It's basically a very small spot light. One you can put in your pocket, or use the belt holster. With the adjustable beem it can be used as a area light, or dialed (push-pull) to creat a focsed beem of light that will impress! Coast makes very good lights, and this is one of thier very best. Plus you don't need special, expensive batteries for it. Thanks to it being LED. I love it! Only con, is the switch is only 3 positions (Rear button) which gives you low high, or off. And to use the extra high beem, you have to keep the button pressed. Over-all an impressive high power light. Jim.(High Performance T7)
