    SureFire LED Flashlight

SureFire not only produces normal but they also produce a line of LED flashlight products. SureFire LED flashlights include many features such as multiple levels of brightness and electronically-controlled power regulation. SureFire has changed their flashlight from the Lumileds Luxeon LEDs to the more efficient Cree XR-E LEDs in some of the models released in 2007. SureFire LED flashlights often have improved run time versus their incandescent lights of similar output.

5 out of 5 stars Best flashlight I have owned   June 13, 2010

As a Police Officer I am always looking for good quality lights and other gadgets. I had a Streamlight Stinger LED which I have carried for a couple years. In those couple years I have grown to hate Streamlight. I got one of the 1st gen LED Stingers that didn't have the tailcap switch. It worked ok for a while but before too long I had to replace the switch. A couple years later I have replaced the switch 3-4 times and am in need of a new one again. In my hunt to replace my Streamlight I came across Fenix lights. I watched numerous reviews on You Tube and read other reviews around the web. I never found anyone to say one bad thing about Fenix. One thing I disslike about a lot of new flashlights are the strobe modes. In my opnion I think they are pointless. In my expierence they stobe when you dont want them to and the argument that it is "tactical" amuses me. But thats for another review. I ordered the TK11R5 because I liked that it had the tailcap with mometary on or click it once to turn it on and click it again to turn off. The light is extremely easy to use, there are no modes to scan through and the light is extremely bright and NO STROBES, yay. I compared it to a Stinger LED, this TK11 completly drowned the Stinger at 20 yards, you could not even tell the Stinger was turned on. The build quality of this light is well beyond its price range. This makes my Stinger feel cheap to me. It has o-ring seals at both ends making the light completly waterproof. I purchased this light with the Tenergy 18650 LiPo rechargable batteries. Another great thing about this light is that with the Cree Premium R5 LED the light does not dim as the battery discharges. You can put in batteries that are almost dead and it will be just as bright as brand new batteries. I highly reccomend this light to all Police Officers or anyone in need of a quality flashlight. The guy that used his Stinger LED to compare to my Fenix now has a Fenix on order. You will not be dissapointed with this light.

This Chinese company called Fenix has really been giving Surefire a run for its money in the last few years. These are exciting times for "flashlight guys". This TK 11 variant, using the latest Cree LED developments, puts out an unbelievable 285 lumens. (Unbelievable for an old retired cop who once thought the Maglight was the ultimate in "tactical luminescence".) BOY, I hate using the word "tactical", but I will anyway. A few years back I happened upon the Fenix L2D, which I found to be a terrific all around utility light. It uses 2 common AA cell batteries, and puts out up to 180 lumens in 5 different modes. Trouble is, as a tactical light I find it problematic because it has no "momentary on" provision in the tailcap switch. Also, it causes you to waste time clicking through a whole menu of different modes to find the one you want. No problem for a utility light, but not something you want to do in a split second life-or-death situation.

The Fenix TK 11Q5 solves all that, with a tailcap switch that gives you "momentary on" with a partial press, and "full on" with one click. Off with a second click. There are two power levels, switchable by rotating the bezel. That's all there is, quick and simple just the way I like it. I bought mine as a package with the 4 rechargeable Tenergy 18650 Li-ion batteries and charger.
I recommend it to my Law Enforcement bros, and to anybody who wants the latest and greatest portable candlepower. It feels like quality and it rocks!

5 out of 5 stars You Get What You Paid For.   August 8, 2010

Plain and simple, this flashlight rocks.

This TK11 R5 is the latest variant of the Tk11 model in the Fenix Tank Series, hence the "TK". The R5 designates the latest Light Emitting Diode(LED) emitter from Cree. The first and second being the Q5 and R2, respectively. What this means is that the R5 is more efficient in converting battery juice into light, whether it be in the form of longer runtime with equal output or higher output under the same runtime as older model(s). In the R5's case, higher light output.

As mentioned above, this is a "tank" series from Fenix, meaning that it can take quite a beating and will remain operable. Not quite on par with Surefire, for those of you familiar with it, but it's pretty damn close. Anyone with reservations can go on youtube and watch the torture test of the TK1, from which the TK10, 11 and 12 are derived.

As the title states, you get what you paid for. What I mean is that Fenix is a Chinese company with manufacturing done overseas. Given that this commands a hefty chunk out of a Benjamin, it's a quality product. People think that all Chinese manufactured goods are garbage, not true. Garbage Chinese goods are the results of companies wanting to make a high profit margin by commanding a super low budget for the manufacturer to work with. You paid them crap, they put out crap, as is within the proposed budget. Fenix is an independent company solely concentrated on high quality LED flashlights.

5 out of 5 stars Exciting performance   July 27, 2010

As an avid Kayaker, I've used many of the cheaper plug in lights and such on my night trips along the banks of the Rivers and lakes. They have all let me down in some major ways. I finally found a great flashlight that holds a great charge, is light and easy to use, and provides superior output.

The flash light is great and could be used to spot on something a fairly good distance away. I'd say @ 100' you could still spot quite well, under 200' you would probably still provide good light coverage, and being 1/2 a mile away one would shine at other people like a torch. I'm sure this could also be seen a good mile+ away as well on a good night. On top of that, using a 3000 MaH 18650 battery, this thing has lasted me over 2 hours at the highest setting without recharging. In fact, I've yet seen it run out on me!

As a test, I turned on a conventional incendescent long black 4 C celled "police" spotlight and set it to spot. Then I turned on my LED as an overlay which completely buried the light from the other police flashlight, it was like it wasn't even on.

My only complaint - changing modes seems to really be a pain in the butt.. then again I just leave it in the highest setting.

i bought 3 of these bad boys for for me, my dad and brother in law. WE LOVE THEM. a bit pricey for a flashlight but its built to LAST. just and awesome product, i bought all three of them with the four tenergy 18650 batteries 2600MaH and charger... Tenergy while are not the best, they do pretty damn good. just remember, when one of the four batteries goes dead you have three more. they take about 12 hrs to recharge but no biggie just put them in when you go to sleep.... good stuff!!!! highly recommend.
